Les Métamorphoses under Raphaël Feye provides eloquently attentive support throughout, but really comes into its own in Weinberg’s Fourth Chamber Symphony with clarinetist Jean-Michel Charlier, a piece that runs the gamut from spiky malevolence to heartfelt reminiscence. The fine recording captures the remarkably full and open sound created by these 21 gifted players.

Inspired by such pioneers of the period instrument movement as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, the musicians of Les Métamorphoses blend modern strings and wind with natural brass and gut strung double bass. The predominant sound is lean and well focused with a refreshing balance between strings and brass.The result in the Haydn symphony is a springy alertness underpinned by tight ensemble. Another innovation presented here is the use of a parallel-strung-piano. As opposed to the familiar cross-strung version. This produce a welcome lightness in the upper register uncompromised by an overly bass and middle.

[…] Au delà de l’état de grâce des “débuts”, on distingue ici un équilibre rare entre l’inspiration, l’intelligence et la virtuosité.

Les Métamorphoses is an independent orchestra founded by Camille and Raphaël Feye and based in Belgium. It brings together musicians passionate about exploring repertoire from both a historical and contemporary perspective. 

The orchestra is driven by a quest for authenticity of sound, textural precision, and expressive intensity. It distinguishes itself through the care taken to every project phase, from research to public performance. Each production is conceived as a carefully crafted highlight, born from in-depth reflection.

Les Métamorphoses brings together instrumentalists selected for their curiosity and commitment to historically informed practice. They all share a common desire: to question traditions of interpretation, rediscover works in their original context, and make them resonate in our present day. This is embodied in a collective commitment, a strong team spirit and a genuine dialogue between musicians.
